About

Uri Agnon is a Jerusalemite composer, theatre-maker, and activist, currently based in London. His work forges a close connection between the musical and theatrical, with pieces for concert hall, opera, musical theatre, oratorio, music-theatre, video-art, theatre, dance, film, and music for demonstrations. He's interested in the relations between activism and music and his work is engaged in political struggles, chiefly the resistance to Israeli Aparthied, and struggles for climate justice. Uri's work has been comissioned for and performed by leading ensembles, venues and festivals in the UK, Israel/Palestine, and beyond.​

​​Uri has a BA in composition and philosophy from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (magna cum laude), an MA in Musicology from the Hebrew University (summa cum laude) and a PhD in composition from the University of Southampton. He writes about music and politics for both academic and non-academic publications.​
